Amstelveen once again transformed into running city during KPMG Lentemarathon 2024

Tomorrow, Sunday, March 17, the fifth edition of the KPMG Lentemarathon Amstelveen will take place. 6,000 runners will participate throughout the day, in distances of 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, the half marathon, or the main event: the 42.195 kilometers of the KPMG Lentemarathon. Additionally, the young athletes will take part in the Kids Run at the Stadshart Amstelveen shopping center.

At 09:30 in the morning, over 800 participants will start the mythical 42.195 kilometers. The route goes through the Amsterdam Forest, over the Amsterdamseweg, the Old Village, across the grounds of AV Startbaan, through the polders, back along the Amstel river, and towards the runners’ village at the Stadsplein. With the number of participants at 800, the KPMG Lentemarathon Amstelveen has quickly become the sixth-largest marathon in the Netherlands.

“We are extremely proud to welcome so many participants across all distances this year,” said organizer Roy van Damme. “Especially the growth in the full distance, the KPMG Lentemarathon, is beautiful to see. We also notice that the event is becoming increasingly popular. For instance, more people from Amstelveen are participating, but we also have 1,400 runners from abroad, representing 40 countries.”

Together, the runners also support a total of 60 charities.

Start/finish village

The Stadsplein will be transformed into a festival for young and old, participants and supporters alike, throughout the day tomorrow. Besides the sporty atmosphere in the village, there will be entertainment with music throughout the day, and plenty of opportunities to recover from running or cheering-on at one of the many food & drinks establishments on the Stadsplein.

City Council shows its sportiest side

Among the participants of the KPMG Lentemarathon are four members of the City Council. In the relay marathon, a team consisting of alderpersons Floor Gordon, Adam Elzakalai, Frank Berkhout, and mayor Tjapko Poppens will be representing the municipality. “The participation of the City Council team is a nice confirmation for us that sports are a high priority at the Municipality of Amstelveen,” says Roy van Damme. “We wish them all the best and if their stories are to be believed, we will no doubt see a great result.”

Lentewandeling

Finally, the dedicated walkers will also be able to enjoy themselves during the KPMG Lentemarathon Amstelveen 2024. Starting from the Stadsplein, participants of the Lentewandeling can choose a walking route of 5 or 10 kilometers through the beautiful greenery of Amstelveen. For this, they can join walking and movement coaches from AV Startbaan and Amstelveen Sport.

Registration no longer possible

For the 2024 edition, registration is no longer possible. Everyone is welcome to come and support and enjoy the sporty atmosphere in and around Stadshart Amstelveen or along the route.
